Dig into the psyche of World Cup athletes like Steven Nyman (Sundance, UT) pre- and post-race weekends with weekly podcasts by George Thomas.
Alpine ski racing fans now have the chance to dig into the psyche of World Cup athletes like Steven Nyman (Sundance, UT) pre- and post-race weekends with weekly podcasts by George Thomas, with Over The Top Media.
It all started this summer when George Thomas met Nyman at the Indian Peaks Cycling Classic. Thomas – whose background includes a BA in Communications and stints as a radio host, newscaster, public speaker, and announcer – started a podcast focusing on endurance sports in 2012. His goal was to throw this into a network focusing on professional bicycle racing as well as long distance events. When he met Nyman, though, he was inspired to create the “Snowbound” podcast network, which returns him to the area of sport for which he has the most passion.
Having worked as an alpine ski instructor for 29 years (and counting), Thomas brings his love of skiing along with his interest in the human element of the athletes to his interviews. Nyman is the headliner alpine athlete with his “Slopeside with Steven Nyman” series, and various alpine and Nordic athletes including Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY), Thomas Biesemeyer (Keene, NY), and Liz Stephen (East Montpelier, VT) have been featured on the Snowbound series. Over the month of December, nearly 22,000 listeners have tuned in.
Upcoming shows will focus on the athletes, and the teams that help them reach the podium. In the coming months, Thomas hopes to extend his interviewees to include members of the women’s team as well as some younger, up-and-coming athletes on the team. Make sure to tune in weekly.
