CORONET PEAK, New Zealand (Aug. 20) - Reigning U.S. slalom champion Colby Granstrom (Lake Stevens, WA) was second Saturday in the final giant slalom of a four day Southern Cup race series at Coronet Peak. Canadians Philip Brown and David Donaldson surrounded the American as Warner Nickerson (Gilford, NH), Tommy Biesemeyer (Keene, NY), David Chodoundsky (Crested Butte, CO) and Will Gregorak (Longmont, CO) also finished in the top 10. Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel won the women's race with Avril Dunleavy (Salt Lake City) as the top U.S. racer in fourth. The men's U.S. Ski Team will pick up racing on Monday with the New Zealand Winter Games, also at Coronet Peak.
