US National Selections

RMD US Nationals Selections

US National Selections - The first 6 men's spots and 4 women's spots will be selected by using the FIS ITS using SL, GS, SG – using the list 9 closes Feb 16th.  The next 3 men's and 3 women's spot will be chosen using the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup races from Dec 20, 2013 to Feb 16. 2014, cumulative points using the best 6 results by World Cup points.

  1. Ties will be broken using the best result(s), continuing down the list of results until the tie is broken.  All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
  2. One spot per gender will be used for discretion selection to be named by the RMD Ability Committee in conjunction with the RMD Manager and the RC Regional Coach.

Athletes wanting to compete in US Nationals must turn in an intent to compete by Feb 15, 2014

 

U18 National Selections

National U18 Junior Championships Selection Criteria

Rocky/Central has a quota of 20 men and 15 women to the National U18 Junior Championship. Of this quota, 10 men and 7 women shall be reserved for regional selection and the remaining 10 men and 8 women will be split evenly between Central and Rocky.

Rocky/Central Regional Selection Method (occurs before divisional selections): 10 men and 7 women will be selected by using the sum of their best two FIS point discipline (Super Combined will not be included) rankings, purged to include only non-automatic Rocky/Central U18 athletes using the most recent FIS points list (list 9 valid Feb 20th). Ties will be broken using the best single discipline rank. If there is still a tie, the third best discipline rank will be used, then the fourth.

Rocky Mountain Division Selection Method:

5 men and 4 women will be selected by the following method:

  1. The top four RMD U18 men and three RMD U18 women will be selected using the best 4 of 8  races ranked by World Cup points – The eight races to be used for qualification are from the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup and are as follows:
    1. 2 Downhills at Copper – December 11-12, 2013
    2. 2 SG's in Aspen – January 5, 2014
    3. 2 GS and 2 SL's at Winter Park – Feb 13-16, 2014
  2. In the case of a cancellation of the FIS DH, RMD will use FIS DH Point rankings for U18 National Selections, there will only be one column of DH results in this case.  If one of the DH's are cancelled there will only be one DH event used and the selection will be the best 4 of 7.  
  3. Ties will be broken using the best result(s), continuing down the list of results until the tie is broken.  All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
  4. 1 men’s and 1 women’s quota spot will be reserved for discretion selection by the RMD Ability Committee in conjunction with the RMD Manager and the RC Regional Coach.
 

U16 RockyCentral Region Junior Championship Selections

Rocky/Central U16 Junior Championships

The Rocky/Central U16 Junior Championships are open to all qualified U16 RMD and Central competitors and will be held in Steamboat Springs, CO March 9-15, 2014. All events, DH,SG,GS,SL, will be USSA point scored.

  1. The Rocky Mountain Division will have the opportunity to fill 50% of the field at the U16 Junior Championship with the Central Division filling the remaining 50%.
  2. RMD will fill the field by identifying 90 male and female competitors.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Boys and girls will be selected based on their performance in the U16 qualifying events.
    1. The first qualifying weekend will consist of 2 SG USSA scored races; the second qualifying weekend will consist of 2 SL and 2 GS two run USSA scored races.
    2. Place points will be awarded to athletes in each of these six (6) races.
    3. Athletes will be ranked in ascending order of their accumulated place points in their best three (3) races. If needed, ties will be broken using the best result(s). All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
    4. Athletes selected to the National U16 Training Group (NTG) will be automatics to the U16 RC Junior Championships of their respective region, provided they attend the U16 projects. Athletes will count toward their home divisions' quota to the Regional Junior Championships.  Members of the NTG must qualify through the normal regional selection methods to the U16 National Championship and Assessment Project.
  2. Final quotas for boys and girls will be established based on a percentage of male and female athletes to the total number of athletes who competed in the first weekend qualifier for U16’s plus first day of second qualifier.   Automatic athletes will be added into total number of athletes.
  3.  One (1) RMD U16 boy and one (1) RMD U16 girl will advance from the Council Cup as determined by the overall. The overall is determined by using place points. Place points will be awarded to athletes in each of the 6 races in the Council Cup. Athletes will be ranked in ascending order of their accumulated place points in their best three (3) races. If needed, ties will be broken using the best result(s). All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
  4. Two (2) boys’ and two (2) girls’ quota positions will be reserved for discretion consideration to be filled by the Competition Manager and Age Class Committee.
  5. Once the quota has been filled, no alternates should be considered.
  6. Foreign USSA members athletes (X license) who are training and competing in Rocky or Central may qualify for the Rocky/Central U16 Junior Olympics through the respective division’s quota. RMD and CEN will each have 4 quota spots total (men and women).
 

U14 RockyCentral Region Junior Championship Selections

U14 RockyCentral Region Junior Championship Selections

The Rocky/Central U14 Junior Championships  is open to all qualified U14 RMD and Central competitors and will be held at Winter Park, CO March 17-22, 2014. Events contested are 1 SG, 1 Kombi, 2 one run GS, 2 one run SL.

  1. The Rocky Mountain Division will have the opportunity to fill 50% of the field at the Junior Championship with the Central Division filling the remaining 50%.
  2. The Age Class Subcommittee will fill the RMD quota by identifying 95 RMD male and female competitors.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Boys and girls will be selected based on their performance in the U14 qualifying events.
    1. The qualifying weekend will consist of two one-run Giant Slaloms (GS), one one-run Super G (SG),  two one run Slaloms (SL) and a SkillsQuest component.  SkillsQuest results will not be used for qualification purposes
    2. Place points will be awarded to athletes in each of the five races.  One point for 1st place, two points for 2nd place, three points for 3rd place etc.
    3. Athletes will be ranked in ascending order of their accumulated place points in their best two- (2) races. If needed, ties will be broken using the best result(s). All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
    4. Final quotas for boys and girls will be established based on athletes who competed on the second day of races at the qualifier.
  2. Three (3) RMD U14 boy and three (3) RMD U14 girl will advance from the Council Cup as determined by the overall. The overall is determined by using place points.  Place points will be awarded to athletes in each of the 6 races in the Council Cup.  Athletes will be ranked in ascending order of their accumulated place points in their best three (3) races. If needed, ties will be broken using the best result(s). All races are available for tie breaking purposes.
  3. Two (2) boys’ and two (2) girls’ quota positions will be reserved for discretionary consideration to be filled by the Competition Manager and Age Class Committee.
  4. Once the quota has been filled, no alternates should be considered.
  5. Foreign USSA members athletes (X license) who are training and competing in Rocky or Central may qualify for the Rocky/Central U14 Junior Olympics through the respective division’s quota. RMD and CEN will each have 4 quota spots total (men and women).
 

Rocky Central Selections to U16 National Championships

RC Selections to U16 National Championships

Rocky Central has a quota to U16 National Championships of eight (8) 2nd year U16's, five (5) 1st year U16's and five (5) 2nd year U14's per gender. 

Selection Procedure for U16 selections

  • Results will be separated into the two years of birth ('98 and '99), YOB, athletes in the U16 category for each discipline in result rank order.  If an athlete is a "Ski up" athlete they would be ranked with the younger YOB athlete ('99).  Only USA athletes will be considered, foreign athletes will be purged from ranking lists.
    • Selections for each YOB will be made using a modified International Team Selection Method, ITS, of the results from each of the disciplines.  The modified ITS order will be SL, GS, SG, DH.  Seven athletes of the older YOB ('98) of each gender will be selected with one spot left open to be used for discretion to be named by the Divisional Managers and the Regional Coach, for a total of 8 athletes named.  Four athletes of the younger YOB  ('99) of each gender will be selected with one spot left open to be used for discretion to be named by the Divisional Managers and the Regional Coach for a total of five athletes to be named.   
    • In the event that a discipline is not contested that discipline will not be included in the ITS ranking. 
    • In the event there is a tie for the last athlete named before the discretion selection, the next best result on the ITS will used to break the tie.  The selection will continue down the ranking list until all spots are filled.

Selection Procedure for U14 selections

Selection criteria for second year U14's ('00) to qualify for the U16 Nationals Championships – 5 girls and 5 boys.

  • Results ranking list will be purged to only include second-year.  Only USA athletes will be considered, foreign athletes will be purged from ranking lists.
  • First place finisher from the following events: a combined time of their two GS races, combined time of their SL races, Kombi, SG and the overall winner will be selected
  • If there are still open quota spots then race points will be used to from the duplicate gold medalist events (Combined GS, Combined SL, Kombi and Super G) where there were duplicate gold medalist.  The athlete with the lowest races points will be selected
